Careers

Barks ‘n’ Purrs is always looking for new pet lovers to join our team. You can supplement your existing income by working with all sorts of animals part-time or full-time. Plus, you get lots of exercise and meet great people.

If we’re not currently hiring, we’ll keep your application on file for future consideration.

You must be a true animal lover with previous pet care experience, ideally:

  • dog walking
  • pet sitting
  • volunteering in a shelter
  • or working at a doggy daycare, kennel, or veterinarian’s office

We take pride in our high level of client service, so you must have excellent presentation and communication skills.

Dog Walker Requirements

  • Ready to work every day Monday through Friday from 10:00 am and 4:00 pm. This is important so please don’t apply unless you can commit to the whole time — our clients like the same person every day
  • Trustworthy, sensible, and able to follow clients’ detailed instructions
  • Excellent work and personal references

All new walkers start off with one to three dogs, increasing as their routes build according to location, time of day, and clients’ needs.  This happens over time, on a “per dog” basis of payment.

Pet Visitor Requirements

  • Available weekends and holidays, and weekdays. Don’t forget we need visitors when everyone else leaves town — think summer weekends, Thanksgiving weekend, Christmas week, New Year’s weekend, and all other long weekends

Pet visits can happen any time of day (depending on the client). This is great if your regular job is “9-to-5” because you can do the visits before or after work.

Boarding “Host” Requirements

  • Live in the Toronto Area
  • Available weekends and/or major holidays
  • Don’t travel a lot
  • Live in a pet friendly building as a leaseholder or owner
  • Live alone or with a partner, NO ROOMATES PLEASE!
  • Have a clean, attractive and well-kept apartment
  • Be able to provide business references
  • Have had a dog or cat of your own as a child or adult
  • Be home a majority of the day to care for dogs

Additional Candidate Requirements

  • True animal lover comfortable handling dogs of all sizes
  • Resistant to inclement weather, including cold, snow, humidity, and rain
  • Canadian citizenship with a clean criminal record and ability to pass a formal background check
  • Can start work immediately and commit to a minimum of six months
  • Equipped with a cell phone and working home internet connection with your own email account
